Membership FAQ
The American Institute of Architects is organized on three levels: National, State and Local. AIA Santa Fe is a Local Chapter
Individuals with an architectural license from a United States licensing authority are eligibile for Architect Membership.

These are the requirements for Emeritus status, according to the AIA bylaws:

2.311 Architect Members. Any Architect member may apply for Emeritus status who has been in good standing in the Institute for fifteen successive years immediately prior to his or her application, and either (i) has attained the age of 70, and is retired from the profession of architecture, or (ii) is so incapacitated as to be unable to work in the profession.
2.312 Associate Members. Any Associate member may apply for Emeritus status who has been in good standing in the Institute for fifteen successive years immediately prior to his or her application, and either (i) has attained the age of 70, and is retired from the profession of architecture, or (ii) is so incapacitated as to be unable to work in an occupation related to the profession of architecture.
2.313 Waiver by the Secretary. The Secretary, in exceptional circumstances and for adequate cause, may, on an individual basis, waive all or part of the period of good standing required for Emeritus status, and/or the age requirement for Emeritus status.

The Chapter must approve all Emeritus status requests. Only AIA National can grant Emeritus status.
How does an Associate Membership work?
Associate membership is open to individuals who have a professional degree in architecture, work under the supervision of an architect, are enrolled in AXP, or are a faculty member in a university program in architecture.

How can I become a Santa Fe Allied Partner?
Companies and organizations in fields related to architecture, such as consulting engineers and providers of architectural products, are eligible to join. Membership is at the Local level only.

How can I become a Santa Fe Allied Individual Member?
Individuals may become Allied Individual Members if they have established professional reputations and are registered to practice their profession where such requirements exist, or are employed outside of architectural practice but are involved in positions outside the field of architecture.
Allied Individual Members may include engineers, planners, landscape architects, sculptors, muralists, artists, and others in government, education, journalism, manufacturing, industry and/or other fields allied to architecture.

Allied Individual Members enjoy benefits including member pricing for all Chapter activities, and the opportunity to network with design community at these events. Members will also receive notification for all these events through regular mailings.
Membership is for the Local level only, and is $150 for a twelve month period. Click here to join.
